| Research awards administered by MSI totaled over $84 million during the last fiscal year, representing a new record and an increase of $10 million over the previous year. Much of MSI's impact arises from the unusual interdisciplinary research that the institute fosters. Ecology mingles with geography, physics with geology, and chemistry with oceanography which expands our understanding of the ocean world.
